Unlocked simply means you can use it with any carrier other than AT&T. If you could someone get your hands on a phone without having to get the 2-year contract, then yea, that’s unlocked, because AT&T doesn’t sell them without their contract.

Unlocking is the process that lets you use unofficial sim cards. (i.e non AT&T sims). Jailbreaking is the process of allowing unofficial apps/tweaks on the device. Living outside the US you usually can purchase the iphone 4 unlocked, if you bought one here and then used it in Saudi then you would need to jailbreak and then run the unlock which is called ultrasnow.

Question by Sir Hoochalot: What exactly is the difference between the current iPhone and the one coming out in the summer?
I reeeallly want to upgrade to an iPhone but I know a newer one is coming out in the summer. How much better is this new one going to be? What will it do that the current one can’t?

Just want to know if it’s worth me waiting. My mum said something about the new one being able to create videos (or something). If that’s the case, it hardly seems worth it.

Here’s the scoup: Apple, like all great companies, makes an innovative product, then milks it. They made the IPhone, and yes it was amazing. As years went by the just added small touches to it and sold it off as a completely new product.

I do believe they’re adding the video edit feature and a slightly bigger memory (2 gigs or so but will cost more). My suggestion is by the current one for a solid price and crack it. A bunch of my friends have done that and basically have access to all apps free of charge, even the multi-hundred dollar ones! Dunno how to do it but basically by the old one, it’s not worth the wait!
