Sure. Depending upon the urgency of the need, your options could get pricey fast as well, but in any event, sure, it is possible to call a mobile phone from onboard a ship.

I own the enV2. It has a full qwerty keyboard for great texting, it is small, it holds 1000 contacts, it has a 2.0 camera. Over all it is a good phone. The samsung Glyde is a touch screen phone with a slide out keyboard. It runs for about 0 and so does the enV2. The LG Voyager is also a keyboard. It is like the enV2 in that it flips open sideways. It is like the Glyde in that it has a touch screen on the front. It runs for a little more(not intirely sure how much but it is under 0) than the other phones. the last phone is the LG Dare. It is all touch screen but when you text it will show a keyboard that you can type on. It is a fairly new phone so it is a little pricy(still not intirely sure how much it is)

Yeah my suggestion would to by one off ebay (make sure its for sprint though) and then take it into the sprint store and tell them you want to switch your number to the new phone they will do it no charge. That is what i did and no regrets there!
