For yahoo mail you need upgrade to yahoo mail plus (@ .99 per year).to get the full pop3 service for access to Outlook,Incredimail, Thunderbird and others.
For more info on setting up your pop3 account see the link below.

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/pop/pop-35.html

* Incoming Mail Server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
* Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication.

There is a free program called “YPOPS” it’s not approved by yahoo and is not fully compatible some users can get it to work but most can’t.

If you have “yahoo.co.uk” address some users can get free pop forwarding see below.
Click “options” (top right) on your mail page>mail options>pop and forwarding>
Set up or edit pop & forwarding>type in the address you want to forward to and
click save.
* Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Use SSL, port: 995
* Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smpt.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Use SSL, port: 465.

Note: In order to be able to send emails from outlook and others through/to yahoo (pop3) you need to pay for a yahoo mail plus account. @ £11.99 per year.

What is servers addresses for hotmail and yahoo?

Question by Catinaz: What is servers addresses for hotmail and yahoo?
I would like to set up kmail (or thunderbird) to read my e-mail from my hotmail and yahoo mail boxes. How should i do it. Is it POP3 or IMAP? What are the Incoming and Outgoing servers?
Thanks

Answer by Alfredo A
I believe non of those will support HTTP email.
I know Microsoft Outlook Express does for hotmail.
When you create an account on OE you can choose between POP3, IMAP and HTTP. After you select HTTP, you select Hotmail on the bottom.
For Yahoo, you better click on the link bellow. It’s for OE also, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out for thunderbird, etc, almost the same thing.

Moving mail between IMAP servers?

-

Question by Isaac S: Moving mail between IMAP servers?
So, I’m switching IMAP servers. I’ve got five accounts configured identically on both servers. Question is, when the DNS record switches and the client(s) “sync” with the new server, will messages stored on the client sync up to the server, or will the mailbox “sync” to an empty state, because the server mailboxes contain no messages?

Best answer:

Answer by PAULSC
IMAP clients typically store no messages. The IMAP message store is always on the server, so if you point your client at a new server, it’s going to see no messages, unless you do something to move your message store to the new server.

There have been some compound clients, such as Lotus Notes, that have options to maintain a local database with a copy of the server message store, to allow working with messages offline, and then going through a process to “sync” the local database with the IMAP server at next reconnect. It can be confusing to use those systems, for people who are used to the direct process of online IMAP operations, but the advantage of offline use is tremendous for business travelers.

But even with a client like Notes, you don’t typically use it to move message stores between IMAP servers via database replication, because the mail store in one server needs file pointers and message IDs that are done by that server. So, the “right” way to move from one IMAP server to another, is to forward your message store to the new machine, via SMTP, or through a client simultaneously accessing both the old and new machines. Here’s a Sun document that covers the latter process: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/bgbab?a=view

Something about POP3 and SMTP servers?

Question by knightsam20: Something about POP3 and SMTP servers?
What would be the POP3 and SMTP things for my windows live account? I’m trying to get my windows live account onto windows mail.

Best answer:

Answer by truetejas
Those would be the settings for your ISPs mail servers, SMTP is to send and POP3 is to receive. You will have to get that info from your ISP.

If you have a mail client running right now you can look up those settings from that installation. In Outlook Express you would look in Tools > Accounts > Properties to see the settings.
