In order to use a separate email program, such as Outlook, Outlook Express, or Thunderbird, with Yahoo Mail you need to pay for Yahoo Mail Plus. When you do you can set the incoming server to pop.mail.yahoo.com and the outgoing server to smtp.mail.yahoo.com.

As an alternative there is an add on called YPOPS that you can download and try.

Question by Rich: when setting up a windows mail, what do you put incoming mail (POP3) and outcoming mail (SMTP) sections????

When you use free email services like Hotmail, Gmail, etc. They want you to access your inbox through their site to cram you with ads. They have no POP/IMAP servers you can connect to with Thunderbird/Outlook/etc. Now with Thunderbird and WebMail, you can! (I sound like an ad XD ) WebMail Addons: webmail.mozdev.org *** Sadly, you cannot SEND emails using this. Sorry for not including that.

what should be followed is the service provider, for example if it is aol.com that is your provider, so you should input pop3.aol.com, got it!

Instructions for using auto-discover in Outlook 2007 & 2010 for use in UGAMail. Step-by-step instructions: 1. Close any open sessions of Microsoft Outlook. 2. Go to the Start Menu and then click on Control Panel. 3. In the control panel, select Classic View in the left column. 4. Scroll down to icon entitled, Mail and double-click on it. 5. In the Mail Setup window, click the button E-mail Accounts… 6. In the Account Settings window that appears, click on the New… button. 7. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, then click Next. 8. Fill in all the information in the form, then click Next. 9. When asked if you like to allow the website to auto-configure, select Allow. 10. You may be prompted to enter your password again. 11. Once the process is finished, close both settings windows and open Outlook. Your account should appear for use after Outlook finishes downloading your messages!
